Basic Shipping Services and Carrier Routing

Learn how Basic Shipping selects a carrier based on the requested shipping service level, destination, package characteristics, and service availability.

1
Basic Shipping Overview

Basic Shipping is the default shipping option for orders fulfilled through Basic 3PL.

Basic 3PL selects an eligible carrier service based on the requested delivery speed, destination, package information, product restrictions, and available carrier services.

All cutoff times are based on the fulfilling warehouse’s local time.

Important Information
1. Order synchronization and cutoff times

The cutoff applies to the time an order is successfully synced to Basic 3PL—not the time your customer places the order on your storefront.

We recommend sending orders from your storefront to Basic 3PL at least 15 minutes before the applicable cutoff to allow time for synchronization. If your orders are routed through an ERP, please confirm its order sync frequency with your ERP provider and plan accordingly.

2. Overnight availability and Express fallback

Overnight service is available only for supported delivery ZIP codes. If an order cannot be submitted with Overnight service, our support team will contact you to confirm whether you would like to switch to Express.

You can also contact Live Chat at any time to enable automatic fallback to Express as your default setting when Overnight is unavailable.

3. International duties and taxes

International shipments default to DDU. If you require DDP, please contact Basic 3PL Support or Live Chat to arrange the appropriate configuration.

4. International destination restrictions

International service is subject to destination country and region restrictions. If an international order fails to sync to Basic 3PL, please contact Basic 3PL Support promptly for assistance.

Transit Time vs. Fulfillment TimeTransit times are estimates and are not guaranteed. Carrier transit time generally begins after the order has been fulfilled and handed over to the carrier.

Warehouse fulfillment time is separate from carrier transit time.
3
How the Shipping Service Level Is Selected

For orders imported from a connected Shopify store, Basic GO identifies the shipping service selected by the customer at checkout and maps it to an available Basic 3PL service level, such as:

  • Standard
  • Express
  • Overnight

If the imported shipping service cannot be identified, the order may use default Standard Shipping or require additional review.

Contact Live Chat as soon as possible if the service level needs to be changed. Changes may no longer be possible after warehouse processing or label creation has started.
4
How Carrier Routing Works

Basic Shipping does not guarantee a specific carrier unless a carrier-specific arrangement has been configured for the account.

The carrier and service may be selected based on:

  • Requested shipping service level
  • Ship-from warehouse
  • Destination ZIP Code
  • Package weight and dimensions
  • Product shipping restrictions
  • Carrier service availability
  • Expected delivery performance
  • Shipping cost

Orders using the same service level may therefore be routed through different carriers.

5
Carrier-Specific Requirements

Standard, Express, and Overnight represent delivery service levels—not commitments to a particular carrier.

Contact Basic 3PL before submitting orders if you require:

  • A specific carrier
  • A customer-owned carrier account
  • Signature confirmation
  • Hold at Location
  • A specific carrier service
  • Special delivery instructions
  • Special routing rules

Availability depends on the warehouse, destination, product type, system configuration, and prior account setup.

6
Products With Shipping Restrictions

Products containing batteries, liquids, chemicals, aerosols, or other regulated materials may not be eligible for every carrier, service level, or destination.

Examples include:

  • Express and Overnight availability depends on the product’s approved transportation classification.
  • Battery shipments to Hawaii and certain other non-mainland destinations may not be supported.
  • International eligibility depends on the destination country, product classification, and carrier requirements.
Product Registration approval does not automatically mean that every shipping service is available for every destination.
7
When to Contact Support

Contact Basic 3PL if:

  • An order has no eligible shipping service.
  • You need to change the shipping service level.
  • You require a specific carrier or carrier account.
  • The order contains a regulated or restricted product.
  • Tracking has not updated after carrier handoff.
  • A shipment appears to be moving slower than the selected service level.

Please include the Basic GO order number, external order number, tracking number, and a description of the issue.

Shipping to P.O. Boxes and Other Mailbox Addresses
Can I ship to a P.O. Box?

Yes, provided the selected shipping service supports P.O. Box delivery. USPS generally supports delivery to standard USPS P.O. Boxes. Other carriers and services may have restrictions.

Before submitting an order, confirm that the selected shipping service supports the destination. If you are unsure, contact Basic 3PL support.

How should I enter a P.O. Box address?

Use “PO BOX” followed by the box number, together with the recipient’s name and correct city, state, and ZIP Code.

Example:

Recipient Name
PO BOX 1234
City, State ZIP Code

Avoid entering only “Box 1234,” as this does not clearly identify the destination as a P.O. Box.

Ensure that all address information, including Address Line 2, is passed correctly from your storefront or order management system.

How does automatic address screening work?

The system uses configured keywords to screen for P.O. Boxes and other mailbox or locker addresses that may be subject to shipping restrictions.

Current screening keywords include:

  • parcellocker
  • postallocker
  • postalofficebox
  • postalb
  • pobox
  • postbox
  • postofficebox
  • lockedbag

These are system matching terms, not recommended address formats.

Automatic screening may not recognize every variation. Addresses containing only “Box [number]” or a street address with a mailbox number may not be identified.

Successful order submission or label creation does not guarantee that the selected shipping service supports the destination. Automatic detection also does not guarantee reassignment to a compatible carrier.
What should I check before submitting an order?
1
Confirm the destination type: P.O. Box, private mailbox, parcel locker, locked bag, or physical street address.
2
Use the complete address and the designation required by the receiving provider.
3
Confirm that the selected shipping service supports the destination.
4
Contact Basic 3PL support before fulfillment if compatibility is unclear.
Incomplete or unsupported addresses may result in delivery delays, failed delivery, or return to sender.
